Whilst calling and texting with a hand-held mobile phone is already illegal but the government is seeking to make laws tighter around mobile phone use whilst driving, as at the moment you can even play games on your phone whilst driving and escape charges. The new law will change this, banning all hand-held use of mobile phones. Anyone caught driving and using a had-held mobile will face a £200 charge and six points on your licence. Don't worry you can still use your phone as a sat-nav as long as you do not touch it whilst driving, same goes for paying at a drive-thru.
But how are companies monitoring it?
Telematics do not monitor phone use but toot does! Companies can also use toot to monitor their employees to ensure they are following the new law and driving safely. And you might be able to use toot as evidence for not using phone whilst driving when applying for insurance.
This new law is welcomed by police and the AA, it is a step forward in making roads safer and closing loopholes in outdated laws surrounds driving.
